Valleyview proudly grows a variety of plants all year round for our community.

There is always something new in our greenhouse getting ready to hit our shelves. We grow plants from tissue culture, grafted branches, and hand cut propagations. We carefully manage every step of the growing process to ensure you get the best quality plants we can grow.

We believe it is important to be able to access locally grown products, and are happy to fulfill that need here in Markham. Our community deserves to know that their plants are coming from people who are putting them first, and can be trusted to provide top notch service.

Calamondin

This sour citrus fruit is at the center of Valleyview’s production, because we are one of Canada’s largest growers of calamondin. Every year we grow thousands of calamondin plants that we sell to our customers and other businesses.

Calamondin is a small citrus hybrid that resembles a small orange. They have a notable sour flavour and are often used in recipes in place of lemon or lime, for a unique twist. Calamondin can also be used to create tangy preserves like jam. They can be harvested when they turn orange or while they are still green depending on your preference.

Calamondin are especially popular during the Lunar New Year, as they make great gifts and are thought to bring luck.

Fruits

From edible to ornamental, Valleyview grows a variety of fruit plants that can brighten your home.

Edibles

Citrus is where we excel. In addition to calamondin, Valleyview grows other citrus plants like lemon, lime, grapefruit, and figs. Check with staff to ensure you are getting a Valleyview grown plant.

Ornamentals

Delicate ornamental fruits are an elegant touch for any space. Year round we sell olives and pomegranate. Around the Lunar New Year our Pig Head Fruits (aka fox head, cow’s udder, solanum mammosum) are available.

Check with staff to find out if your fruit plant is edible.

Specialty Tropicals

Tissue cultures are an incredible look at the science that goes into the production of tropical plants. A tissue culture is a small piece of a young plant that is cloned and grown in agar, a nutritious biogel. These cultures are then sent out to growers like Valleyview, where we carefully plant them into plugs, sock-like containers made of natural fibers. We nurture these saplings until they grow large enough to plant into small nursery pots, where we allow them to grow even more before we put them out in our store.

These processes let us offer all sorts of unique and rare plants to our customers, at a reasonable price. Houseplants can be an expensive hobby, but when you buy locally grown products the cost can go down significantly. At Valleyview we believe everyone should have access to quality affordable plants.

Holy Tulsi

Valleyview proudly grows Tulsi, or Holy Basil, from seed so that our customers always have this delicious precious herb year round.

Pothos

Another one of our biggest productions, Valleyview takes advantage of the fast growing nature of pothos. We harvest cuttings from our mother plants that allow us to produce thousands of new plants from propagations for our customers. Valleyview offers many varieties of pothos from the classic golden pothos, to more unique varieties like the manjula pothos.

Hot Peppers

In the spring you can find the region’s largest variety of hot pepper plants, all grown in house from seed. We carry fan favourites like the ‘Wiri Wiri’ and the ‘Scotch Bonnet’, all the way to the super hot ‘The Reaper’ pepper. Every year we grow over 30 thousand hot pepper plants.

Succulents

We always have a huge variety of small succulents available to our customers. These plants make the perfect gifts and look so cute on a window sill. At any time of year come in and see the hundreds of succulents in our store, and know that we have thousands more growing in our greenhouse.
